Conduct Young Age

FOR THE PURPOSES OF THE CHILD PROTECTION POLICY, YOUNG PLAYERS ARE DEFINED AS THOSE WHO ARE UNDER 18 YEARS OF AGE.

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR YOUNG PEOPLE as per CRICKET IRELAND.

Laois Cricket Club wishes to provide the best possible environment for young people involved in our sport. Young people deserve to enjoy cricket safely, free of any type of abuse. They have rights which must be respected and also responsibilities that they must accept.

Young People at Laois Cricket Club are entitled to:

  • Be listened to. Be believed.
  • Be safe and to feel safe.
  • Be happy, have fun and enjoy sport.
  • Be treated with dignity, sensitivity & respect.
  • Be free to approach a Children’s Officer or Designated Officer with any questions they may have.
  • Experience competition at a level at which they feel comfortable.
  • Have a voice in the club.
  • Make complaints if they feel the need, in an appropriate way and have it dealt with through an effective complaints procedure.
  • Say No to a request that makes them feel uncomfortable.
  • Be afforded appropriate confidentiality.

Young People at Laois Cricket Club should undertake to:

  • Play fairly and always in accordance with the rules and the spirit of cricket.
  • Treat others with respect, eg, team mates, officials, opponents, coaches and managers.
  • Communicate with others in a respectful manner.
  • Show good manners at all times while at the club, or representing the club.
  • Take their safety seriously by always wearing the appropriate protective equipment while training, practising or playing cricket.

  • Only train and play when feeling well.

Young People at Laois Cricket Club should never:

  • Cheat, lie or steal.
  • Use violence, unnecessary physical contact or bullying behaviour.
  • Shout at, argue with or use bad language to officials, team-mates, opponents, coaches or managers.
  • Take banned substances to improve performance or use alcohol.
  • Harm any person or property.
  • Tell lies or spread rumours about other young people or adults.
  • Keep secret about any person that has caused them harm.
  • It is not permissible to leave the grounds during coaching or a game they are playing in.

YOUNG PLAYERS PRACTISING DURING AN ADULT GAME IN WHICH THEY ARE PLAYING OR IF JUST PRESENT AT THE GROUNDS TO WATCH A GAME. During an adult game with U18 players either participating or just present to watch the game, some of these may wish to practise their skills. If so, they

  • Must inform a responsible adult from the team
  • Wear appropriate gear, e.g. helmets
  • Practise with due care for themselves and their colleagues/ visitors around the ground.

Fast Bowling Directives for Practice Sessions:

Age

Up to 13........... max:30 balls per session max: 2 sessions per week.

U14, U15........... max: 36 balls per session max: 2 sessions per week.

U16, U17........... max: 36 balls per session max: 3 sessions per week.

U18, U19........... max: 42 balls per session max: 3 sessions per week

The figures for the match and practice sessions are based on players bowling in no more than 3 matches or practice sessions per week for age groups up to and including U15, and 4 matches or practice sessions per week for age groups up to and including U19. Players can play in other matches provided that they do not bowl.

Nets

Outdoor:

The emphasis should be on quality rather than quantity. These Directives encourage young fast bowlers to focus their efforts on shorter, more intensive spells. Consequently, young fast bowlers should be made aware of the importance of warming up and warming down as part of their preparation.

Indoor:

In the period between the end of the season and Christmas, indoor practice for fast bowlers should be kept to a minimum. Director of Cricket International Teams Lead Coach Assistant C
